Fast-tracked schedule set to deliver advanced medical technology.
The Covington facility was a highly specialized project that delivered a first-of-its-kind nuclear pharmacy for the owner, built to manufacture radioactive isotopes for PET imaging with a usable window of just six to eight hours per dose. DonahueFavret Contractors executed a 10,336-square-foot facility engineered around two cyclotrons, requiring a two-foot-thick concrete containment wall for radiation shielding and lab spaces ventilated at 25 to 35 air changes per hour, far beyond standard commercial rates. Every structural, mechanical, and process decision was coordinated tightly with the owner’s specialty equipment vendors,
with underground utilities sequenced and locked in before the slab was poured.
When the owner introduced additional scope midway through construction, the team absorbed the added work without extending the schedule, delivering the project on time. The resulting facility and the process to complete it has been designated by the owner as its national prototype, setting the construction standard for every future site to follow.
